Abstract
Power amplifiers are the most power hungry and perhaps the most expensive part of the wireless transmitters in the RF chain. The key differentiators among different PAs are cost, yield, weight, efficiency, ease of design, reliability, ruggedness and high temperature operation. Generally, the most important of these requirements are linearity and efficiency. Modern communication systems employ high crest factor signals as a result of the urgent need of higher bandwidth efficiency. Achieving mandatory linearity constraints along with competitive efficiency requirements becomes more difficult with increased signal crest factor [1–3].
