Mean Value Theorems

Abstract

In elementary calculus we learn the mean value theorem: Let f be a real-valued function defined on a closed bounded interval \( \subset \mathbb{R}\) . If f is continuous on and differentiable on (a,b), then there is a point c ε (a,b) such that
$$f(b) - f(a) =\dot{ f}(c)(b - a).$$
