Abstract

Mueller presented a detailed status of the Apollo Program in another speech to the National Space Club in August 1966, and during the question and answer period said a small possibility existed to land on the Moon before 1969, but “it would be idle to forecast when the first landing will take place.” This comment fed speculation of an early lunar landing because he also said that Gemini, which started behind schedule, would end ahead of schedule.
