Abstract

Analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and digital-to-analog converters (DAC) are key elements in the world of electronic circuits. They provide the interfaces between the digital processing unit and the analog world. ADCs and DACs are required in every circuit technology and exists in several architectural flavours. The interest for organic ADCs originates from the future application of organic smart sensor systems which combine sensors, actuators and a digital processing unit on a plastic foil in a biomedical, logistic or other environment. Nevertheless the implementation of ADCs in organic electronics technology is at the moment hampered by the technological challenges and requires special attention and well-considered design decisions.
