Abstract

The diagnostic evaluation of patients with groin pain is challenging. These patients often have vague or referred pain. Physical exam evaluation, oftentimes, is not accurate enough to identify the exact source of the patient’s pain. Coupled with the fact that other imaging techniques do not easily allow the patient to change position or perform dynamic maneuvers, musculoskeletal ultrasound is emerging as the modality of choice to evaluate these patients.

This chapter will review the basic anatomy and imaging techniques that are used for evaluating “hip” and groin pain not directly related to the hip joint.
