Abstract
In the previous chapter, we discussed access to healthcare services in the United States, and critically examined the disparities in the accessibility of health services and in some health measures among the country’s different ethnic and racial groups. We concluded Chap. 7 by noting that the identified differences in uninsurance rates and in health disparities among segments of the population would probably have been worse were it not for the safety net programs that have been funded to provide insurance coverage and healthcare services for the poor, elderly, disabled, and pregnant women and their children.
