Abstract
A number of psychological therapies and interventions have been developed over many decades that are considered forms of psychotherapy, counseling, and other conceptualizations of treatment approaches. Although many types of models and approaches exist, this chapter will focus on those approaches that have shown evidence of effectiveness. Cognitive–behavioral, behavioral, and pharmacotherapy methods have been found to show likely efficacy in treating children and adolescents with anxiety disorders. Research on the efficacy of these methods for children is relatively recent, and fewer studies exist than for adults. The vast majority of pharmacotherapy research for anxiety disorders has been with adults, but there is sufficient evidence of effects with children that warrant its consideration in some cases.
