26. Laparoscopic Splenectomy

  • Chapter
  • First Online:

Abstract

Laparoscopic splenectomy requires a good understanding of the anatomy of splenic vasculature. It can be performed with an initial mobilization of the spleen (posterior approach) or division of the splenic vessels first (anterior approach) which is our preferred method. Careful partial splenectomy is feasible but requires advanced laparoscopic skills and previous laparoscopic splenectomy experience. The learning curve for laparoscopic splenectomy is about 30 cases.
