Abstract

Normal variants, also known as benign epileptiform variants (BEVs), are uncommonly occurring waveforms that may appear epileptogenic to the untrained eye. Five BEVs have been described. This chapter shows samples of three BEVs that often occur in sleep and that a sleep specialist may therefore encounter on a polysomnography (PSG). We also show samples of four other electroencephalographic (EEG) phenomena that occur frequently yet may cause confusion in certain situations.
