Abstract
Every so often a particle from space hit’s Earth’s atmosphere with an energy exceeding anything that a manmade accelerator can achieve. Where do these particles come from? And how do they get to be so energetic? These are two of the oldest unsolved questions in astronomy – but the new generation of cosmic ray detectors promises to provide the answers.
