Abstract

Although the question of the democratic legitimacy of leadership is not the main focus of this book, it is also included here to make the overview complete. Whatever is the political organization of a social, economic, or political group, hierarchies are present in most of the cases. Two main extreme hierarchies are found: authoritarian and democratic. In the first one, everything starts from the top and proceeds down towards the bottom while in the second case it is the reverse.
