Abstract
This book aims to help increase knowledge about active citizenship in Europe and its role in the democratic experiment-attempt, which consists of the setting up of a democratic system that is more than a poor copy of a Nation State. Paradoxically, citizens are both the most mentioned and feared actors of this experiment, yet the least known, hence our choice to focus on the “civic side” of the European integration, focusing particularly on the autonomous citizens’ organizations engaged in public policies.
