Abstract

In this chapter we review some other approaches to multicast. We contrast application versus overlay methods, describe a gossip based system motivated by peer-to-peer file sharing techniques, and present a method based upon distributed hashing. We describe a method enabling hosts with only unicast capabilities to access multicast content from the Internet. Lastly, we present an algorithm for constructing a tree subject to a delay constraint, and a routing method for wireless networks inspired by the foraging of ants.
