Abstract

One integral part of application integration is providing a possibility to exchange data. When using ontologies, annotations using concepts defined in those ontologies are commonly used. However, current approaches to annotating class models most often do not respect typical mismatches between those class models and formal ontologies. In Sect. 7.1, we will briefly introduce the state of the art in annotating class models, followed by a set of common problems that cannot be tackled by most of those approaches in Sect. 7.2. Section 7.3 introduces a rule-based solution that can cope with those problems, and Sect. 7.4 shows how annotation of class models was employed in SoKNOS.
