Abstract

A decade ago, those of us using Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) methods to improve healthcare performance began submitting our findings to medical journals, including many of the examples we have presented in this book. Reviewers commonly rejected them as poorly designed research: “Where’s the control group?” Our response was, “It’s not bad research; it’s good PDSA.” We also pointed out that the intention of these projects is to implement good science, not to end-run it [2].
