Abstract
Having a futuristic product portfolio, as discussed in Chap. 12, is one thing; having a futuristic orientation is something else. Managing the future is admirable, but inventing the future is outstanding. An active imagination and free thinking enables a firm to invent its future. However, having an active imagination has very little to do with innovation per se. The imagination must be fostered, but it must also be used for innovation.
