The ACL Handbook

Abstract

The history of ACL surgery has evolved from recognition of this injury, through conservative treatment, to primary suture repair and complete replacement of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL reconstruction). Current treatment is based on the knowledge learned in these myriad of studies. In this chapter, we will review some of the highlights of this evolution in treatment, with a particular eye towards developments that have had a sustained impact on our understanding and treatment of this important clinical problem.
