Meniscal Transplantation Techniques

Abstract

Meniscal allograft transplantation techniques continue to evolve. The common goal is to reproduce the function of the meniscus. To accomplish this goal it is necessary to match the size of the meniscus allograft to patient’s original meniscus size, place the allograft horns at the original attachment sites, and create secure fixation. While soft-tissue-only technique is possible with the use of arthroscopic approaches, it appears in the laboratory that bony attachments are superior to soft tissue attachment. Therefore, the bony attachment techniques will be presented: Bone bridge in channel and bone plug in the tunnel/socket. These techniques allow for reproducible results reported by multiple authors.
