Abstract

This chapter introduces the L2C GPS signal. The first section of this chapter provides a brief history of the L2C signal, a list of the current satellites with L2C capability, a description of the enhancements available with L2C, and a discussion of the issues that drove the L2C design. It is followed by a section that provides a summary of the signals transmitted on L2 and a detailed description of the L2C signal waveform. The chapter continues with a section that describes how to demodulate and extract navigation data. Finally, it ends with a section that describes how to calculate the pseudorange, phase, and doppler observables.
