Abstract

In this chapter, we study the structure of linear transformations. Our aim is to understand the structure of a linear transformation in terms of its most elementary components. This we do by representing the transformation by its matrix representation with respect to particularly appropriate bases. The ultimate goal, not always achievable, is to represent a linear transformation in diagonal form.
