Abstract

More than 1,500 people were infected and at least one died during a major outbreak of typhoid fever in Tajikistan and neighboring Kyrgyzstan in the fall of 2003. It was the worst typhoid outbreak in 6 years, coming on the heels of a 1997 epidemic that killed dozens and affected more than 17,000 [1].
