Abstract

The signs of midface aging are often overlooked by surgeons of all skill levels. This “under-diagnosis” of classic midface changes can limit the results of aesthetic periorbital and facial rejuvenation. In the appropriate patient, with midface deflation, flattening and descent, cheek implants provide the surgeon an excellent option for aesthetic facial surgery. Contemporary cosmetic surgery should include the appropriate diagnosis of midfacial aging and the corresponding treatment with facial implants. Understanding how to diagnose and treat the aging midface with silicone facial implants can enhance surgical outcomes for the patient and surgeon alike.
