Abstract

Over the past several years major improvements have been made in the quality of high T c A-15 superconductors. In particular, high-quality thin films of Nb3Sn and Nb3Ge have been fabricated using chemical vapordeposition [1], coevaporation[2], and magnetron sputtering[3] techniques. Aside from the potential applications of these materials to ac power transmission, high-field magnets, and particle accelerators, their high transition temperatures might be exploited for use in devices cooled by closed-cycle refrigeration.
