Abstract

For clinicians involved in the care of children, epilepsy provides a focus of concern for the multidisciplinary team. Effective treatment, based on up-to-date knowledge and the appropriate use of modern technology, can transform a potentially severely handicapping condition into a disability that is compatible with a virtually normal pattern of life. On the other hand, overmedication, the needless labeling of a child as “epileptic,” and failure to take account of the psychological accompaniments of epilepsy can do great harm.
