Combined Hamartoma of the Retina and Retinal Pigment Epithelium

  • Chapter
Clinico-Pathological Atlas of Congenital Fundus Disorders

Abstract

Hamartomas of the pigment epithelium are not unusual, especially when the patient has other evidence of congenital malformations. There is usually visual loss. Strabismus or leukocoria may also be a presenting sign. Most diagnoses are made during routine examination of the patient. If the discmacula is involved directly or by traction, acuity is diminished. Peripheral lesions may not affect the acuity.
