Search for Periodicities in High-Energy Gamma-Ray Astronomical Data

Abstract

The paper describes and discusses the steps of the analysis for detection of periodicities in the gamma-ray astronomical data, with emphasis on the statistical aspects. The statistical challenges, related to the choice of the test employed and to the criteria used to decide whether a positive detection has been made, are presented and a guided review of the available literature is given.
