Abstract

Cancer of the ovary raises many challenges during the preoperative, operative, and postoperative periods. It is not only the site of origin of a variety of tumors but a target for metastases from many other organs (i.e., thyroid, breast, stomach, colon, and the opposite ovary). Therefore it is important to rule out the ovarian tumor as a metastatic lesion before exploratory laparotomy. To be forewarned is indeed to be forearmed. The diagnostic evaluation has been covered in Chapter 8.
