Abstract
There is a considerable body of epidemiological evidence available to support the view that hormone levels influence several kinds of human cancer. Further, there are many experimental models for hormonal carcinogenesis. Estrogens can cause or augment endometrial cancer, probably by their effects on cell proliferation. Similarly, higher estrogen and progesterone levels increase breast cancer risk. However, the use of the artificial steroids in oral contraceptives can reduce endometrial cancer risk (1). The androgen testosterone may be a factor in prostatic cancer.
