Abstract

This chapter describes the common features of the psychological organization of psychotic phenomena. Although the psychoses are a variety of illnesses that have different mental organizations, they have two common structural aspects: a loss of reality testing and a condensation of reality with fantasy. This condensation takes place in a particular way and is in a particular relationship to the rest of mental experience. This is why we can describe a category of mental experience called psychotic structure.
