Abstract
Corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) regulations have placed a high priority on aerodynamic efficiency for automobiles. While the wind tunnel will continue to play a vital role, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) holds the promise of bringing aerodynamics into the design process much earlier and less expensively. On May 3, 1991 Gary S. Strumolo from Ford Motor Company discussed the importance of aerodynamic design and the role that CFD could play in achieving it.
