Abstract
In this final chapter to review the existing research literature, the use of projective tests and perceptual defense paradigms is discussed. In both of these two approaches, the nature of the inquiry is unstructured, or ambiguous, and the response called for is open-ended. It is what the subject makes out of the unclear stimulus task, or rather how the subject goes about formulating a response, that provides the material for judging defensive functioning.
