Results of Studies of the Auckland Health Status Survey

Abstract

My introduction to the WONCA Classification Committee was at the Singapore World Conference in 1983 when Bert Bentsen persuaded me to talk about my health status measures. In Tietlingen and again in London, we discussed the idea of a classification of function, not qualified by “health,” and the consensus was that it should ideally be short enough to fit within the time constraints of family practice consultations. An instrument such as we had used for community needs surveys in Auckland was considered to be too long, too wide ranging, and too concerned with future health.
