Abstract

The first time it happened was last summer when Gretchen was at sleepover camp. It was in the middle of the night. Gretchen had awakened from a nightmare. All she remembered about the nightmare was that she was standing in front of her house, but she couldn’t get in. The door was locked and she didn’t have the key. Then she woke up suddenly, covered with sweat, and she couldn’t breathe. Each time she tried, a strange wheezing sound came out. At first Gretchen didn’t know where the sound was coming from, but then she realized the wheezing noise was from deep inside her, and she became alarmed. Her heart began to pound frantically. Luckily, a counselor had come to help her. They took her to the doctor, and the next day Gretchen was sent home. She had asthma.
