Part of the book series: Polymers Properties and Applications ((POLYMERS,volume 12))

Abstract

Polymers exhibit a variety of changes in state that drastically alter their physical and mechanical properties. The principal determinants in these transitions are temperature, external stress, and the time scale or rate of the experiment used to measure the transition under consideration. The temperatures at which these transitions occur for any particular time scale represent important material parameters.
