Genes and Their Expression in the Male Gametophyte of Flowering Plants

  • Conference paper

Abstract

The pollen grain at the time of release from the anther contains a store of presynthesized poly (A) RNAs, i.e., messenger RNAs (mRNAs) (Mascarenhas and Mermelstein 1981, Tupy 1982; Mascarenhas N.T. et al 1984). These poly (A) RNAs have been shown to code in cell free translation systems for proteins that are similar to the proteins synthesized during pollen germination and tube growth (Frankis and Mascarenhas 1980; Mascarenhas N.T. et al 1984).
