Abstract
Strongyloidiasis is a potentially lethal helminth infection for which effective treatment is now available. Unlike most other helminth parasites, which do not multiply within man, Strongyloides stercoralis has the capacity to cause an overwhelming infection via a process called autoinfection. The incidence of this complication appears to be markedly enhanced in immunodepressed individuals.
