Phase tracking is an important problem. It is filtering problem consisting of an observation process,
$$[z{\text{(}}t{\text{) = }}A\cos ({\omega _0}t + \phi ) + n(t),]$$
and a signal process, φ, which for didactic purpose we will initially assume is a Brownian motion process:
$$[d\phi = d\beta ,{\text{ }}{\phi _0} = c.]$$
