Abstract
The Bell System has been a concerned employer for a long time. We have had a pension plan without employee contributions since, I believe, 1913. And, Illinois Bell’s predecessor, the Chicago Telephone Company, employed their first physician in 1903—and a female at that. The company’s history gives evidence of its attitudes toward health care and employee assistance programs.
