Abstract

The etiology of obesity in childhood is very probably multi-factorial. We know that genetic, nutritional, environmental, and hormonal factors play important roles. Their quantitative interrelationships are, however, unknown. In obese patients it is possible to observe a number of differences from the normal variation as regards biochemical, hormonal and physiological patterns. Most of them seem to be adaptation to obesity since they are reversible by weight reduction (10). Some data on an illustrative case, a girl we observed a number of years ago are given in table 1.
