Water-Soluble Polyisothiocyanates

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: Polymer Science and Technology ((PST,volume 2))

Abstract

Polyisothiocyanates have been made as oil-soluble polymers of vinylphenyl isothiocyanate (1) and as biological absorption materials (2). In earlier work it was reported (3) that the water-soluble copolymer of acrylamide and vinyl isothiocyanate was stored up to a week at room temperature and then gelled by the addition of hexamethylenediamine. In the present work, water-soluble polyisothiocyanates have been made from polymers of 2-chloromethylbutadiene. The preparation of this monomer and of water-soluble polymers from it has been described previously (4).
