Book cover Amorphous Magnetism

Abstract

A discussion of the general theory of spin glasses and specifically, how the ideas of Anderson, Halperin and Varma on low-energy excitations in real glasses may be made applicable to random spin arrangements, will be presented. Attention will be called to the phonon-spin wave analogy. The work of Kok and Anderson on accounting in the simplest possible fashion for the properties of various alloys, such as amorphous solvent metals and giant susceptibility systems, will be discussed.

The portion of work done at Cavendish Laboratory was sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research under contract No. F44620-71-C-0108.
