Behavioral Effects

  • Chapter
The Prostaglandins

Abstract

The behavior of an organism is a product of the internal and external environment and, in a sense, represents the integration of these two environments by the central nervous system (eNS). In many cases, behavior is studied and observed to determine how the eNS functions. Most of the behavioral studies with prostaglandins and prostaglandin precursors have been performed as a means to observe their effects on the eNs; therefore, any discussion of prostaglandins and behavior must also include some discussion of their neurophysiological effects. The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the effects of prostaglandins on behavior in the context of their neurophysiological attributes.
