Abstract
By the term X-Y recorder is meant an instrument that is capable of plotting any two variables against each other, rather than against time. This requires that the recorder be able to plot multiple-valued as well as single-valued curves. Nearly all X-Y recorders are potentiometric servo types, with separate input networks and amplifiers for the two axes. Hence the chief differences from the instruments discussed in Chapter 3 are in mechanical rather than electrical features.
