Abstract

After I had agreed to give a summary of the contributed papers on the Statistical Model and deviations therefrom, I was asked by Prof. Kiss to present, in addition a survey of the Statistical Model itself. I have tried to combine the two assignments by giving a survey on those aspects of the Statistical Model which relate to contributions to this Conference, or to other work of recent origin. Necessarily I had to leave out several topics. I only mention models of pre-equilibrium decay of the nucleus, and the theory of avarage quantities such as level density and the average neutron width.
