Abstract
21 patients with Beall (disc) mitral valves were studied by echocardiography and phonocardiography. In thirteen patients prosthetic function was clinically normal (N), while in eight patients there was clinical reason to suspect valve abnormality (ABN): e.g. prosthetic gradient of 12 mm Hg or greater, prosthetic valve endocarditis, or prosthetic regurgitation. Echo disc velocities were measured as the slope of the opening and closing disc movements with the transducer in the standard mitral position.
