Abstract

Tracer methods make an important contribution to the investigation of analytical procedures. An analyst seeking a new method for the determination of a particular element or ion in a new matrix may attempt to adapt an established technique or in extreme circumstances institute an entirely new method based on a new reagent or a novel principle. In either case, the investigation of the new procedure can be speeded and clarified by the use of radioactive tracer methods.
