Abstract

The capacity to mount an antibody response to many immunogenic systems is under the control of immune response (Ir) genes which are linked to the major histocompatibility locus (H-2) of the mouse (1). Inbred mice of the H-2b type manifest IgM and IgG antibody responses when immunized with a synthetic antigen such as poly(Tyr, Glul)-polyDLAla—polyLYs ((T, G)-A—L) (2). In contrast, mice of the H-2k or s type are “low” responders that ordinarily produce only low titers of both IgM and IgG antibodies to (T, G)A—L (3). In addition, lymphocytes from sensitized responder mice have specific in vitro secondary proliferative reactions to (T, G)-A—L, whereas lymphocytes from sensitized low responders do not(4).
