Abstract
Although the genesis and constituents of lymphoid tissue germinal centers are not clearly defined, there is evidence that they are induced by antigen, and may play a role in T-B cell cooperation (1–3), generation of immunological memory (4), and differentiation of antibody-forming cells (5–6). Since we had previously demonstrated T antigen positive cells as constituents of germinal centers, we wished to test their induction in “oligosynthetic” lymph nodes with defined antigens. We chose three classes of antigen — thymus dependent antigens, thymus-independent antigens which induce antibodies limited to the IgM class, and a newly-described thymus-independent antigen, DNP32- Ficoll, which induces both IgM and IgG antibodies.
