The Ontogeny of Bursa- and Thymus-Specific Cell Surface Antigens in the Chicken
Antisera specific for the chicken bursa of Fabricius (ABS) and for thymus (ATS) cells have been produced in turkeys (l) and characterized in in vitro (2) and in vivo (3) experiments. Using these antisera, the B-and T-cell populations of lymphoid organs of chickens at different times after hatching have been delineated (4). The present report summarizes experimental results on the appearance and frequency of cells bearing antigenic determinants defined by anti-bursa cell and anti-thymus cell sera during embryonal life of the chicken.
