Summary
Twenty-three patients (pts) with anaerobic lung infections were treated with either carbenicillin (12 pts) or clindamycin and gentamicin (11 pts). Anaerobes were recovered from all specimens. Fifteen pts. had aerobic bacteria as well. No significant difference was noted in clinical or bacteriologic response between the two antibiotic groups suggesting that carbenicillin alone is effective in the treatment of anaerobic lung infections.
